Mornington Golf Club

Fairways to the cliff's edge, and the bay beyond.

The Space

A much-loved club on the clifftop above Port Phillip Bay — the Tallis Room seats up to 150 for the service behind floor-to-ceiling glass, with the fairways and the water beyond, and the bar and deck alongside carry a wake of 250 or more — all on one level.

Mornington Peninsula

The course runs along the clifftop above Port Phillip Bay — the only one in Victoria that does.

On the clifftop above the bay

Mornington Golf Club sits high on the clifftop at the end of Tallis Drive, its fairways running to the edge above Port Phillip Bay — the only course in Victoria set right on the bay, with the Melbourne skyline showing across the water on a clear day. The club has been part of Mornington since 1904, and has played on this land since Sir George Tallis leased it 120 acres of his estate in 1946; the room that holds the service still carries his name. On the day, the club goes quietly on around you — golfers out on the course, the clubhouse warm and lived-in — which many families find is exactly the company they want. Guests follow Tallis Drive in through the course and park right at the clubhouse door, with the Tallis Room, the bar and the deck all waiting on the ground floor.

Room to gather, indoors and out

The Tallis Room set with rows of chairs for a funeral service, windows to the fairways and bay

The Tallis Room

The club's main function room, on the ground floor with not a single step between the car park and your seat. Floor-to-ceiling windows run the length of the room, looking across the fairways to the bay, and it holds the full funeral service for up to 150+ guests. We bring in and test the ceremony sound and tribute screen before the first guest arrives.

Refreshment tables set with tea and coffee overlooking the golf course at Mornington Golf Club

The bar

Alongside the Tallis Room, with its own doors between the two. The club's team pours drinks and serves refreshments here once the service ends — and for a big farewell, we set it up beforehand as a comfortable overflow space, so a full house is never a squeeze.

Clubhouse deck looking over the practice putting green and course beyond

The deck

Off the bar, the deck looks over the practice putting green, with the course rolling away beyond. Guests drift out here during the wake to take the air — tea or something stronger in hand — and it tends to be where the stories start.

The upstairs Jacaranda Room with wraparound windows over the fairways to Port Phillip Bay

The Jacaranda Room

Upstairs, with the same sweeping outlook from higher ground. The Jacaranda Room is reached by stairs, so we hold memorial services here — a farewell without the coffin present — for more intimate gatherings of up to 100. Most families choose the Tallis Room below, where everything sits on one level.

One last round

For a golfer's farewell, we can arrange putters on the practice green — so after the service, everyone has a hit in their honour.

Some lives call for a farewell with a little more room in it — a place that meant something, the music they loved, the long afternoon that does them justice. A Celebrated farewell gives you that scope: a distinctive setting of your choosing, a fuller selection to draw from, and the freedom to shape the day around the person — held with the same care we bring to every family, and the same clear, published pricing.

A distinctive setting, chosen for the person and the day — vineyards, gardens, rooms by the water — with room to move through, indoors and out.

Room to personalise

A fuller selection of coffins, flowers and details, and the freedom to shape the readings, music and gathering around them.

Someone beside you

A dedicated arranger to help you bring a more involved day together, with the same care from the first call to the last goodbye.
