Designing the farewell

A day that could only be theirs

The flowers, the coffin, the music, the table afterwards. Here is a look at what we can put in place — and how it feels when it comes together.

Wattle in the chapel, because it was flowering that week. A plain blackwood coffin. The song he played in the car, at the volume he played it. Sandwiches cut the way his mother cut them. A booklet people still have.

None of it came from a catalogue. It came from a family telling us who he was.

A look through

Details from farewells we've arranged

No two are alike, and nothing here is a set you have to choose from. They're here for the feeling of them.

How it's made

Made by hand, close to home

Very little of this comes off a production line. The flowers are arranged the day before, a few minutes from our door. Each coffin and casket is handmade to order for the family who chooses it — nearly all of them here in Victoria. And Candour itself is Australian — family owned, family run.

We go to the best maker for each piece, and almost without exception that maker is local. The few pieces that come from abroad are there because we went looking for houses that do nothing else, and found them.
