One gathering, two ways it comes about.

A deep green handmade urn held gently in two hands
Most families choose this

A private cremation, then the gathering

We bring them into our care and the cremation takes place privately, with no service. Their ashes come home to you in a handmade urn, and the gathering follows when everyone can be there.

Suits families spread across states or overseas, or anyone who asked for no fuss.

The gathering on its own

The cremation or burial has already happened, with us, another funeral director or overseas, or there was no funeral at all. We arrange and run the gathering.

Suits families with the ashes already home, or an anniversary coming up.

A lot goes into a memorial. We carry all of it.

Families who arrange a memorial themselves often spend the day working instead of being there. This is what we take care of.

The cremation
Private, at a Victorian memorial park, usually within two to three days of the doctor’s certificate. Registrations and the death certificate handled.
The date
Set around who has to travel, weeks or months on.
The venue
Found, booked and checked for parking, access and a wet-weather plan.
The celebrant
Matched to your family and briefed on who they were.
Order of service
Written with you, printed and handed to guests as they arrive.
Music and photographs
Your songs cued, and a photo tribute to music tested on the venue’s screen.
Flowers
Arranged and in place before anyone arrives.
Food afterwards
Numbers, timing and dietary needs sorted with the caterer.
Telling everyone
An online tribute page with the details of the day.
Family far away
A live stream, tested beforehand and recorded to keep.
The ashes
Home to you in a handmade urn before the day, and at the memorial if you’d like them there.
The ashes
At the memorial if you’d like them there, and placed in a memorial garden or niche the same day if you wish.
On the day
We arrive first and leave last. The venue, celebrant and caterer come to us, not you.
Afterwards
The urn, guest book and flowers come home with you, and the tribute page stays online.

Your part: tell us about them, choose what matters, and be there.

Memorial services, answered plainly.

What’s the difference between a memorial service and a funeral?

Whether the coffin is there. A funeral is held with the coffin present, before the cremation or burial. A memorial is held without it, so it can be almost anywhere, weeks or months later.

How much does a memorial service cost in Melbourne?

With a private cremation included, from $9,429 (Simple), $11,879 (Celebrated) or $19,659 (Concierge). If the cremation or burial has already happened, from $8,879, $11,329 or $19,109. All inc GST, with flowers, celebrant and catering added at arrangement.

How long after someone dies can a memorial be held?

There’s no deadline. Two weeks and two months are both common, and some families gather a year on. The date follows who has to travel.

Do the ashes need to be at the memorial?

No. Some families place the urn beside a photograph; others keep it at home. If you’d like the ashes placed in a memorial garden or niche on the same day, we arrange it with the park.

Another funeral director did the cremation. Can Candour hold the memorial?

Yes. Bring the ashes, or just the story, and we arrange the gathering from there, from $8,879 inc GST.

Where can a memorial service be held?

Almost anywhere: a memorial park chapel, a garden, a club, a church or hall, a restaurant’s private room, or your own home.

Can family overseas or interstate take part?

Yes. The date can wait for them, and we can live-stream the service, from $770 at cost and included with Concierge. It’s tested beforehand and recorded to keep.

Can we have a religious memorial, such as a memorial Mass?

Yes. We arrange memorials with your parish, temple or community, in the form your tradition asks for.

What if they donated their body to science, or were lost at sea?

A memorial needs no ashes and no coffin. We arrange it as we would any other, and if the ashes come back after a donation, a smaller gathering can follow.

Is a memorial the more sustainable choice?

Often, with no hearse and a coffin chosen for a private cremation rather than display. Whichever you choose, we measure the whole farewell’s emissions and offset them at 150%, and a tree is planted in their name.

We’re here, whenever you need us.

Call any hour, day or night. The person who answers looks after everything from there.
