Recording your wishes

Your wishes, written down

Recording your wishes — or helping someone you love record theirs — is one of the kindest things you can leave behind.

Recording your wishesThis page

Free. A conversation where we write down what you’d want — nothing paid, nothing locked in.

Some plan quietly for themselves. Others plan alongside a parent or partner. However you arrive, it begins with the same gentle conversation.

Why families plan ahead

In our experience, planning ahead is less about paperwork and more about care — a quiet gift to the people who’ll one day gather for you.

Your wishes are known

When your preferences are written down — cremation or burial, the kind of farewell, the music, the place — the people you love aren’t left to guess at the hardest possible time. They can simply honour what you wanted.

Decided in daylight

Choices made calmly today spare rushed ones later. The venue, the music, the shape of the day — settled while there’s time to think, not in the fog of the first days.

The load lifts

Grief is enough to carry on its own. When the decisions are already made, your family’s only task is to be together.

Pre-arrangement

Recording your wishes

A no-cost arrangement where we record your wishes.

A relaxed conversation — over the phone, at our place, or at your own kitchen table — where we listen and write down what matters to you: cremation or burial, the shape of the farewell, the venue, the music, the personal touches. You’ll receive a written copy to keep and share, and you can change it at any time. Nothing is paid, and nothing is locked in.

How a planning conversation works

We listen.

Tell us as much or as little as you like. There are no forms in front of you and no clock running — most conversations take about an hour.

We write it down.

Your wishes become a clear written record: practical enough to act on, personal enough to sound like you.

You keep it.

You’ll receive your copy to keep and share with family, and we’ll hold the latest version safely on file. Update it whenever life changes.

“I feel relieved my farewell will be a caring one for this earth and my family. Visit them for a chat, you’ll be assured brilliant care.”
Carmel McInneny-McRae, who planned her own farewell with us

What you can start thinking about

There’s no form to fill in and no order to follow. These are simply the threads most families like to think about first — explore any of them, or none, before we talk.

The shape of the farewell

From an unattended cremation to a fully attended service — Simple, Celebrated or Concierge — every Candour farewell can be a cremation, a burial, or even a farewell on the open water.

The order of service, a memorial book, the photographs and music from the day — the things people hold on to, and the quieter question of how you’d like to be remembered.

Questions families ask

What kinds of things can I record?

As much or as little as you like. Cremation or burial, the kind of farewell, the venue, the music, readings, flowers, who should speak — even the small things, like the tea you’d want served afterwards. There are no required fields; it’s your record.

Does it cost anything to record my wishes?

No. The conversation, your written wishes record, and any updates to it are all free, with no obligation — not even to choose Candour when the time comes. We simply hope you will.

Can I change my wishes later?

Yes, at any time and at no cost. Life changes, and your plan should be allowed to change with it. Just call or write, and we’ll update your record and send you the new copy.

I’d like to plan with my mum or dad. How do we begin?

Gently. Many of our planning conversations include two generations — sometimes three. You’re welcome to sit in, ask the questions they’d rather not, or simply hold a hand. We’ll follow their pace, not ours.

What happens when the time comes?

One phone call. Your family — or a hospital or care team — calls us on 1300 788 881, any hour of any day. Because your wishes are already on file, they won’t face a single unnecessary decision; we simply set your plan in motion and take care of the rest.

We’re here when you’re ready

Not ready yet? That’s alright — this page will keep. When talking about it feels easier than not talking about it, call any hour of any day, or ask us anything at all.
