About this venue

Melbourne has been saying goodbye in Boyd Chapel since March 1936 — the original chapel at Springvale Botanical Cemetery, and the room that helped shape how this city farewells its own. It remains Springvale's largest traditional chapel: a long, light-washed nave beneath a soaring stepped ceiling, tall arched leadlight windows down both sides, and dark timber pews seating 192 guests. A recent heritage restoration has returned the original 1930s detailing to its full beauty, while comfort, accessibility and technology have been quietly brought up to today's standards. A projector, microphones and live streaming are built in, and for the largest gatherings we can arrange for the service to be shared into the neighbouring Atrium or Renowden Chapel as well. A private cremation or graveside burial can follow within the same grounds.

For the largest farewells, the service at Boyd can be shared into The Atrium or Renowden Chapel next door, with sound and vision carrying everything through so nobody misses a word. This needs to be arranged with the cemetery ahead of time — so if there's a chance your numbers will grow, tell us early and we'll have the extra space booked and ready, just in case.
It can be. Boyd is at its best with a large gathering — for a smaller service, Renowden next door offers the same restored 1930s character in a more intimate room, and Blair or Wilson offer garden settings for smaller groups again. We'll talk your numbers through and help you choose the room that fits.
Springvale is a large, garden-filled cemetery, so it helps to know the way. Come in from Princes Highway and follow the blue line painted on the cemetery's internal roads — it leads straight to the chapels. Free parking is available beside the reception building and directly across from the chapels, and our team will be there to greet your guests and show them the way.
