About this venue

Renowden Chapel has been part of Melbourne farewells since the 1930s. One of two heritage chapels at Springvale Botanical Cemetery — the more intimate companion to Boyd — it's named for a former trustee of grounds that have served Melbourne since 1901, and it has recently been restored by heritage architects, who returned the building to its original 1930s elegance while quietly bringing its comforts up to today's standards. Inside, it's every inch the classic chapel: a coffered ceiling with fine plaster detailing, tall arched windows, dark timber pews and a warm, dignified stillness. It seats 96 guests for a funeral or memorial service, with a projector, microphones and live streaming built in — and if you're expecting a larger gathering, we can arrange for the service to be shared into the neighbouring Atrium or Boyd Chapel as well. A private cremation or graveside burial can follow within the same grounds.

This does need to be arranged with the cemetery ahead of time, so if there's a chance your numbers will grow, tell us early — we'll book the extra space and have it ready, just in case.
Springvale is a large, garden-filled cemetery, so it helps to know the way. Come in from Princes Highway and follow the blue line painted on the cemetery's internal roads — it leads straight to the chapels. Free parking is available beside the reception building and directly across from the chapels, and our team will be there to greet your guests and show them the way.
