About this venue

The Sanctuary is unlike anywhere else at Bunurong Memorial Park in Dandenong South — a curved glass pavilion resting on the edge of Lake Australis, set apart from the main chapels and reached by its own lakeside path. Floor-to-ceiling glass wraps the room, so the water and sky become part of the service, and chairs rather than fixed pews mean the space can be arranged to suit your family. It seats up to 80 guests for a funeral or memorial service, with a laser projector, large screen, microphones and live streaming, so anyone who can't travel can still be part of the day. A private cremation or graveside burial can follow within the same grounds — a setting families across Melbourne's south-east choose when the place itself should feel like part of the tribute.

Cirrus, Cumulus and Stratus are chapel spaces within Bunurong's main chapel building. The Sanctuary is its own building — a glass pavilion at the edge of Lake Australis, with water views on every side and flexible seating rather than fixed pews. Families often choose it when they want the setting itself to feel like part of the farewell.
The Sanctuary sits at the edge of Lake Australis, and there are two easy ways to arrive. You can park in the main car park closest to the Frankston–Dandenong Road entrance and take the footbridge across the lake, which brings you right to the chapel — a lovely walk on a fine day, and handy if you're staying on for refreshments afterwards. Or simply follow the signs to the chapel and park along the road beside it, a few steps from the entrance. Our team will be there to greet your guests and show them the way.
Yes. The pavilion is fully enclosed and climate-controlled year-round, so your family enjoys the lake views whatever the weather. There's also a covered balcony over the water if guests would like a quiet moment outside before or after the service.
