About this venue

Melbourne's north has been coming to Fawkner Memorial Park to say goodbye since 1906, along tree-lined avenues first laid out by architect Charles Heath. The Crick Chapel is the most intimate of the park's three chapels — a mid-century building of brick and timber beneath a steeply pitched roof, sitting quietly among mature gum trees at the top of Fourth Avenue. Inside, recently renovated, the vaulted ceiling draws the eye upward while daylight falls from high windows along both sides. Timber pews seat around 80 guests, with standing room in the foyer, and screens, sound and live streaming are built in for music and tributes, along with a hearing induction loop. A private cremation or graveside burial can follow within the same grounds.

Crick is the smallest and most intimate of Fawkner's three chapels, seating around 80 guests, while Cordell and Joyce each hold roughly double that. If you're expecting a close gathering of family and friends, Crick lets everyone sit near one another without the room feeling empty. For larger farewells, we'd guide you toward Cordell or Joyce — all three sit side by side at the top of Fourth Avenue.
Enter from the main entrance at 1187 Sydney Road, Hadfield, and follow the signs to Fourth Avenue — the three chapels sit together at its top, and parking is available right beside them. Our team will be there to greet your guests and show them the way.
Chapel services at Fawkner are booked in set time slots, as other families may hold services the same day. Most funerals run between 30 minutes and an hour, which sits comfortably within a standard booking — including time for guests to arrive and depart. Services can be held between 9.30am and 5pm, and if you're planning a longer service, tell us early and we'll book extra time so nothing feels rushed.
