The Joyce Chapel is one of the two larger chapels at Fawkner Memorial Park — Victoria's largest memorial park, where Melbourne's north has gathered to say goodbye for well over a century. A broad mid-century gable shelters the entrance beneath mature gum trees, and inside, the recently renovated chapel is defined by what surrounds it: walls of glass run the full length of both sides, so greenery and garden courtyards sit at eye level throughout the service. Light timber pews seat around 140 guests, screens on both walls give every seat a clear view of photo and video tributes, and sound, live streaming and a hearing induction loop are built in. A private cremation or graveside burial can follow within the same grounds.
